Security Visualization: VideoLAN DDoS Visualized As A Game of Pong
VideoLan was the target of a recent DDoS attack with more than 200 requests per second hitting their systems at 30Gbps.

We've seen more than 200 downloads of VLC per seconds during the attack which is ~30Gbps in total.

VideoLan developer Ludovic Fauvet (@etixxx) created a unique visualization from log files usign Logstalgia, showing the perpetual battle between server and requests during a DDoS attack.
The pattern of the attack was identified and the VLAN team was able to identify a common user agent and configured Nginx to fend off the requests. Even at its peak of 400 requests a second their systems were still running.
The #DDOS on VideoLAN downloads infrastructure is now at 400 req/s. And we're still up and running 😉
